JournalServer is an international non-profit initiative that provides free online access to academic journals
It consists of The Journal Server Trust based in Oxford (UK), working in collaboration with its spin-out company, a not-for-profit Corporation (JournalServer.org) incorporated in the State of New York (USA). Together they are referred to as 'JournalServer' in this website.
The Trust was formed in the summer of 2001 and is in the process of being registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The not-for-profit company JournalServer.org was incorporated in the summer of 2002 and is expected to obtain the 501(c)(3) Federal tax-exempt status by mid-2004.
The Trust and the Corporation collaborate and cultivate long-term partnerships with leading universities, publishers, and government organisations to foster and support a trend towards not-for-profit publishing of high quality scholarly research.
JournalServer is dedicated to the advancement of education and research throughout the international community of scholars. It also gives a fair chance to developing country journals, by breaking the vicious circle of low impact factor ratings due to low visibility.
