free library of scholarly journals

The Oxford University Library Services has said in its 2001-2002 SERS Annual Report:
[JournalServer] may well be a significant step towards making scholarly publications more readily accessible to researchers worldwide.

Are you a university student or staff member? Are you aware that your university (library) is buying back the scholarly content generated by your own university (departments) at exorbitant prices set by a few, large, pro-profit publishing houses? This phenomenon has led to a huge "scholarly communication crisis" -- whereby even the top universities in rich countries are finding it difficult to sustain all their existing subscriptions to periodicals.

JournalServer provides a credible freeware alternative by enabling the publication of high quality journals at no cost to researchers all over the world. Thus, we empower the academia to bring down the cost of journals, and revive the spirit of non-profit academic publishing.

You can support our initiative in many ways -- collaborate with us, make donations in cash or kind, establish mirror sites of our digital library, or just share your skills!
